Welcome to Cumbria Coast Karate

Who are we?

Cumbria Coast Karate kicked opened its doors in March 2017 at the High Harrington Community Centre with just 4 students. Since then we have opened another 2 dojos in Ennerdale and Lamplugh and currently have a student base of approx 70 members. The dojos are ran and overseen by Sensei Mark Stevens who is assisted by other CCK Club Instructors and also Assistant Instructors. All instructors are DBS/CRB checked, have first aid training and have also completed a child safeguarding course.

What do we teach?

We teach Wado Ryu Karate. When we opened we decided upon providing an effective technical approach to karate. Working from Eastern and Western teachings from various sources to create an adaptable syllabus that can be used pragmatically in today’s current climate. The original karate system was developed in Okinawa, Japan for civilian self defence. The teachings demonstrate many methods on how to control an opponent. With this in mind our syllabus has been tailored and developed to incorporate these teachings, a lot based on the theory of why, how and when (should a technique be used).
